This week was an interesting one for Year 4 as they dived into Hyper-text Mark-up Language for the first time. The children explored the concept of HTML tags and elements. As we discovered the basics of the language, sparks of excitement were ignited as we realised the potential of how web pages are created.
Armed with our newfound knowledge, the children eagerly opened their realtime HTML text editors, ready to write their first lines of code. They carefully crafted HTML structures, experimenting with headings, paragraphs, underlines, coloured writing, font styles and many more. Each line of code was a step closer to understanding the language that powers the websites they visit daily.

In our unit ‘We are Musicians’, the children inYear4 used and combined a variety of software to create a piece of creepymusicto describe Grendal’s moor from the Anglo Saxon story Beowulf. We used the Isle of Tune, Chrome Lab and Soundtrap to editmusicand create and develop our musical composition.
Some of our tracks will soon be available in theYear4section of ourComputingBlog. Listen if you dare!https://chpsmrshart.edublogs.org

Year 4 enjoyed programming the crumbles to create controllable vehicles.
Coding of the police car included flashing sparkles red and blue, buzzers (nee-nah), motors and buttons to stop the code running.
Today in Computing we were lucky enough to borrow some Crumbles from the Computing hub. We used them to control a simple circuit connected to a computer. We created a simple circuit and connect it to a microcontroller, programmed a microcontroller to make an LED switch on and explained what an infinite loop does.

In our unit, ‘We are Toy Developers’ children in Year 4 have been exploring programmable toys and considering the inputs and outputs of each. Over the half term, they will work in pairs to design a simple programmable by creating a virtual prototype simulation in Scratch.

Year 4 have been using Scratch programming to debug code.

May 2021
Children in Year 4 have been editing the HTML in websites using X-ray goggles. For many of us, it was a lesson on how easy it is to create fake news.

Year 4 have been selecting, using and combining a variety of software (including internet services) to create a musical composition.
They have created their own tracks to describe Grendel’s moor from the story Beowulf with a ‘creepy’ theme.
The children used some sound effects from Soundbible, voice recordings, beep box tunes, isle of tunes website, chrome lab and loops from Soundtrap.
Here’s our finished tracks.

Today we have been learning about the toys which contain digital devices. We created some mind maps of them discussing their inouts and outputs.
